Home Air Balloon

Genre : Game Jam - Third Person Controller

You are a floating House with a single Propulsor/Canon.

You can aim 360°, either to move or to shoot at giant evil bird.

Oh, and theirs big gems everywhere, might need to collect them!

Game Design

Goal :

  • Make an exotic Controller.

  • Play with sphere and movement rotation.

​

Constraints :

  • Theme : Traveling from Home (COVID had just locked us in)

  • 3 Days

Learning occured :

  • A Game Jam is not nearly enough time to achieve a full scale exotic 3C. Not in the first try anyway.

  • The prowess 2 good programers can do in game development.

​

Mistakes were made :

  • Not pushing visual communication hard enough to the 3D-Artists led to rework on some parts (mainly the home and balloon size). The Home was barely visible on the balloon in early 3D models.

  • Not enough time was put in testing the controller for the sake of feedbacks, camera might be too close to the character.

​

Challenge :

  • First big game jam team, 3 Game Designers, 2 Game Programers, 4 3D-Artists.

  • I hadn't work with everyone in the team, meaning I had to learn how to work with some while doing the Jam.

​

Why did it work well :

  • We had 2 Programers, allowing us to try some exotic 3C.

  • 3 Game Designers meant that testing and implementing assets went fast.

  • Good communication inside the team.
